Ben and Clare’s sustainable lifestyle extends through to our philosophy for managing the vineyard and minimal intervention practices in our wine making processes.

Rather than masters of wine, we prefer to be recognized as the people who know our land the best, and we believe that mother nature is the best winemaker. Our skills and passion are then used to capture the best characteristics from our grapes and the land on which they grow into every bottle of our wine.

Terroir

With an altitude at approximately 600 metres above sea-level our Lenswood vineyard in the northern Adelaide Hills is one of the coolest and highest vineyards in South Australia. The top metre of loamy soil sits on a sub-clay base and sustains efficient water and nutrients to the vines whilst reducing the risk of pests and diseases at the same time. The north-east facing slop gives the vines the optimal exposure to the sun. 

In this terroir, our grapes ripen slowly over the cool summer days and chilly nights to produce fruits with intense aromas and flavours. Our focus is on the Burgundy varieties – Chardonnay and Pinot Noir – as well as some South Australian classics – Sauvignon Blanc and Shiraz.

Vineyard Management

We hand-prune and hand-pick all our grapes to ensure the premium quality of our grapes and the health of our vines. Ben and our vineyard team work together closely and check the condition of our vines every single day.

We pick our grapes when the intensity of the flavors and richness of the tannin achieve the best balance. We believe the flavors are best delivered by the grapes themselves. Once the grapes are picked we respect the natural quality of the grapes and minimise our intervention into the winemaking process.

Winemaking

Our light and bright Sparkling, Sauvignon Blanc and Rosé are whole-bunch pressed and fermented in strictly temperature-controlled tanks which delivers unique varietal characters to the final wines.

The Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Shiraz are fermented by natural yeast that showcase our unique terroir. Techniques such as carbonic maceration, extended maceration and sur lie are carefully utilised alongside hand-selected French oak barrels to develop the elegant structure and diverse flavours in the finished bottles.

In 2017, we made a decision to divide every vintages production into three product lines:

Art Series

Easy to drink, fruit forward and fun! These are the wines we recommend to drink at lunchtime, with pizzas, or just over a nice afternoon with some good friends. Each label is illustrated by Clare Anderson and changes with every vintage telling a unique, and sometimes quirky story about us!

O Series

These wines are all about where we are. From one of the highest and coolest vineyards in South Australia, the grapes are hand selected to deliver a more traditional style and elegant structure. We keep food pairing in mind when we make these wines and believe they are great choices for your dinner parties, to impress your friends and families. 

Reserve Series

Only the highest quality barrels of each vintage are selected to produce limited amounts under this distinguished label. Our barrel selected Reserves are only produced with our top quality wines in good years. If you are looking for wines for special occasions or to save in your cellar for a good decade or two? These are the perfect choice for you.
